Why make a CD?

The CD will bring Santa Lucia to life for it's audience in a way that literature, or a website, isn't able to do. It is impossible to fully convey the beauty of the cloud forest in two dimensions, and it is hard to feel that you have seen a personal account of the experience of the community, or the ecotourist, without watching them discuss it in person.

What do we hope to achieve?

Competition is fierce for funding, and it is important that Santa Lucia is able to show people what it really does in an immediate and powerful way. The project is an extremely important example for people studying ecotourism, for anthropologists interested in the impact on a community, and for anyone who wishes to understand better the ways in which their travel choices affect the places they travel to.

There are challenges and controversies for any project which aims to maintain a form of sustainable development. It is a subject that has great relevance in this day and age, as so many people are taking a closer look at the damage that tourism has done in the past. More and more people now choose a travel experience that involves at least some level of sustatinable tourism, but they should be properly informed about what this actually means and how such projects should most effectively be carried out.
